Bethany Lutheran Church will hold its annual, “A Christmas Journey,” on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 12-13. This event tells the Christmas Story to visitors, while in the comfort of their vehicle. Drivers move along Town Creek seeing performers reenact the story. The church pulls out all the stops, with 200 volunteers from the congregation participating.
This year’s performances will be Friday and Saturday evenings, Dec. 12-13, from 6-8:30 p.m. The 10-minute drive-thru presentation features special lighting, music and effects, live characters, animals and professionally hand-painted props.
On both nights, cars will be greeted by volunteers who will cover their headlights and then safely guide them to the tour’s start. Cars will line up on Schubert Street, turn right onto Adams Street and then take another right into Bethany Lutheran Church’s back parking lot. Drivers will then follow the lighted pathway through the Journey.
Occupants will get to see performances on both sides of the vehicle to feel immersed in the Christmas Story. Those wishing to walk will also be permitted along a designated walking trail. A Bethany Lutheran bus which stops in front of Marktplatz on Main Street, will take groups through the performance, as well.
The event is free, however, monetary donations will be accepted to benefit the Fredericksburg Food Pantry following the tour. Bethany Lutheran Church is located at 110 West Austin Street.
